BS&J is preparing an Asset Management Plan for Suez Water Rahway. Components of the plan include: conducting an asset inventory and condition assessment, establishing the required level of service, identifying critical assets, preparing life cycle costs, developing a long-term funding strategy, and summarizing this information in an asset management report.

Existing shop drawing submittals in BS&J’s files from the original construction in 1968, visual inspection and ultra-sonic thickness measurements in May 2016 were instrumental in assessing the condition of these welded steel pipes. BS&J prepared recommendations for MWC review for continued service.

BS&J provided engineering services to inspect the construction of a water main replacement through an existing casing pipe beneath the CSX railroad. The work required special attention due to close proximity to this heavily traveled freight line.

The scheduled replacement of the liners in these two reinforced concrete tanks provided the opportunity to inspect the tanks and replace the secondary containment coating systems. BS&J provided engineering services to specify the new coating and liner, and inspect the tanks both existing and completed conditions.

BS&J provided hydraulic modeling, design, and startup assistance associated with implementation and testing of improved surge relief capabilities and two utility powered and two diesel driven temporary pumping units both with variable speed drives at the SWNJ Hillside and Fairview Pumping Stations. Improvements to the raw water intake from the Delaware and Raritan Canal and the addition of a pumping unit are being designed by BS&J. As part of this work, both temporary and permanent repairs to the pumping station building masonry structure are being designed.

Over $20 million of construction was completed including overtopping protection on the earth embankment for an auxiliary spillway, rehabilitation of the low level outlet, and other improvements including a new fishing pier and rescue boat ramp. BS&J’s services included design, construction services, and operation and maintenance training for the new facilities.

As part of planned distribution system improvements, BS&J completed the design of several water main replacements in the SWNJ system. BS&J also provided on-site inspection to monitor daily construction activities and prepared as-built deliverable documents.
