New Durham Pumping Station Renovation, North Bergen, New Jersey (2015-2018)

BS&J designed improvements to the existing 25 million gallon per day (mgd) SUEZ Water New Jersey, Inc. New Durham Pumping Station in North Bergen, NJ including replacement of electrical switchgear, pumping units, standby generator, suction and discharge headers, metering equipment, and new additional improvements to the surge relief system. The facility remained operational while the improvements were constructed presenting unique phasing challenges.

BS&J provided engineering services during the construction including the review of submittals and shop drawings for pre-purchased equipment including the six (6) pumping units, electrical switchgear, and standby diesel engine generator. On-site construction inspection included the new 13 kV electric service entrance, 480V electrical switchgear, outside piping modifications, and the new pumping units. During the work this 25 million gallon per day (mgd) station remained in operation.

In 2018, construction was completed for full service during the summer demand months. BS&J provided engineering services to assist with pump station control system updates, optimization, and pump station automatic control logic implementation.
